Participation grade will be based on the Warm up Activities given at the beginning of every class, logging in of homework into your Agenda Book, and Classroom Etiquette, which will observe how you are engaged in the lesson during instruction and /or group activities. Attendance will contribute to the participation percentage as well.
During the first 10 minutes of class, you are expected to work on your Warm Up Activity along with copying down the HW into your Agenda Book. HW will be written on the whiteboard and easily identified. Students are expected to have HW completed by the designated due date. Students without HW will be given a zero for the assignment.
Each unit will require you to engage in projects, either individually or in groups. You will be graded on these projects based your mastery of the content provided, creativity presented, and the legibility of your final product. Other guidelines will be presented before each project is handed out. Group interaction will be a major point of assessment for group projects.
Class Work (CW):
Class work will include any and all designated independent and group assignments given during the class period. If you are not instructed to turn your work in, you are to store the assignment in your IS Binder. Unless specified, unfinished class work will be additional homework, on top of regular homework. Class work includes class notes as well. As students preparing for higher education, I will require that you keep detailed notes from class lectures, discussions, and readings. You will receive points for every class day notes are required. Class notes will be accounted for in your final grade along with penmanship, so keep clean notes.
You will be given a weekly quiz on the material learned. Quizzes will be taken and unpacked during the same class sitting. Excused absences will need to reschedule a time after school or during lunch to take the quiz. Extra credit will not suffice for missed quizzes. Quizzes are subject to change in the occasion of an absence.
Integrated Science (IS) Binder:
All assigned work will be accounted for in the student’s IS Binder. Points are allotted to each section of your IS Binder and your compiled work. Just having the assignment will warrant points, however you will still be graded on the content. You are responsible for each section and having the right material in there. Random Binder Checks will help keep track of your work.
Students will be periodically assessed on mastery of material. Exams will be given at the conclusion of each Unit. Mid-term and Final exams will cover all material presented during the corresponding semester. Exams consist of a major part of your grade. In depth reviews will be given for each exam.
Makeup Exams / Retakes:
You will have one week to schedule a time to make up an exam that was missed. After one week has passed, you will receive an automatic zero on the exam. When offered, you will be allowed to retake an exam if your initial grade was a D or an F. The maximum grade you can earn on a retake is a C. Those of you wishing to retake an exam must arrange to do so within a timely fashion after the original exam has been returned. This class is designed for success! Let’s ensure our grades display our learning.
Late class work and/or homework assignments will receive half credit. I will only accept late work until the end of the grading period. However, if you do not get it in within a timely fashion, you will need to make an arrangement to get your work in. If you have an excused absence, you are encouraged to turn in the assignment within 2 full class days for FULL credit. If your absence is unexcused, we will need to have a conversation and figure out an alternative option for half credit.
All students will have an opportunity to earn extra credit points at varying times throughout the semester. Extra credit assignments will be announced ahead of time. Extra credit is only a supplement to class work, homework, exams, and tests AND do not take the place of it.
