ASDL Initiative

ASDL (After-School Digital Learning) Initiative

The reason for this website and the various social networks connected to mrpenesclass.com is to offer another option and viable platform for the students to engage and interact with content material from our class, on their preferred and highly visited venue options, after school.  More and more students spend the majority of their time online at social networking sites such as myspace, facebook, twitter, etc, or on the phone texting or talking…so why not create an avenue to intersect the students at their frequent digital venues.

This initiative is strictly a supplement and reminder for the learning taking place in class and by no means should replace valuable instructional and independent work time.  Nor does the website and/or social network venues take the place of primary communication between teacher and student, which takes place at school or via email.  Parameters have been established and set in terms of communication.  Social network sites are NOT for communication means in regards to getting questions answered, etc, but only to post and direct students to the main website which will host all the necessary information needed in order to reinforce, be reminded of, and review content material.

The ASDL Initiative is a new innovative initiative that our class has agreed to embark on as we pursue to increase our rigor and study habits.  Mrpenesclass.com has data to track how many views each page and study page will receive in connection to a Review Session that gets rolled out each time.  So the online data and the scores from the tests will gauge the success of this program.  We will compare it to the traditional means of studying after school, by issuing exams without luxury reminders from the ASDL initiative and compare/contrast the results.  Hopefully, this data will inform us how to progress in our effort to support student learning.

Here’s how it works.

For example, teacher will post “HERE IS YOUR STUDY GUIDE FOR TEST ON FRIDAY DECEMBER 4″ into “TESTS” category on the mrpenesclass.com website.  The study guide material will be included in the post.  Once the post is published to the mrpenesclass.com website, all the major 3 social networking sites, myspace, twitter, and facebook, will post the title of the post along with the actual link to the webpage for the blog post.  On MYSPACE, the students will see it on the “Status” section and be reminded to click on the link to study for the exam.  It will also be posted in its entirety on myspace in the “Blog” section of the myspace page, so the students will also be notified of the blog post and be reminded to click on the link to check the page.  On FACEBOOK, the title of the blog, along with the link will be posted as a “Status” update and “Link” share, so the students will see it on their timeline and be reminded to go to the link and be sent to the webpage.  TWITTER also posts the link and the title of the blog.

In addition to the social networking sites, teacher will leave a message on the Voice Mail network system that will immediately send a text message to the students and tell them to call in and listen to the voicemail, which will be the teacher reading off the same information that is posted on the blog post or reminding them to visit the website for pertinent information.  This way the students will have online digital reminders, as well as cell phone text and voice mail digital reminders.  For the voice mail network just text “mrpene” to 729-669 (saynow) and dial the number that get’s sent to you immediately after.  From there on, you will be notified anytime a voice message is created, prompting you to dial in and retrieve your message…which will be the teacher updating you on whatever the current initiative is.

Thanks for your interest and support!
